burn out

The group exhibition at the Ellwangen Kunstverein e.V. explored the theme of "burn out"in all its facets.
For my contribution, I explored the concept of burning in nature. This is actually a natural rejuvenation process that, due to global warming, is turning into destruction. "Skeleton," however, is intended to represent not only destruction but also the emergence of new life.
To illustrate this cycle, visitors were encouraged to create a new habitat on the branch during the exhibition.

2023; Felted wool in diverse colours, metal & weight; 250 cm x 150 cm x 100 cm; exhibition view, burn out at the Kunstverein Ellwangen e.V., Germany

The sculpture "Skeleton" is initially monochrome, black-brown. It depicts a burnt, supposedly dead branch.

Mushrooms and mosses are the pioneers in nature and are the first to colonize such places after a fire.
Visitors were able to attach the hand-felted, colorful mushrooms and mosses to the branch. The monochrome sculpture became the skeleton of a colorful ecosystem.

The felted mushrooms and mosses are modeled on their natural counterparts in shape and color. After the exhibition, all appliqués were permanently attached, as requested by visitors.
Since ecosystems continue to grow, "Skeleton" is not a complete work in progress. The sculpture will evolve with each exhibition.
