The “Small Dotted Cat Shark” is a small shark nativ to the coast of Europe and North Africa. The species is often caught as bycatch on fishing boats or is harmed by ghost nets.
The sculpure is crocheted with yarn made from a ghost net collected from the Mediterranean Sea by the NGO Enaleia. The fishing line coming out of the mouth symbolizes the harm ghost gear does when illegally discarded into oceans.
