Variegation

The exhibition "Variegation" ran from November 1, 2024, to January 12, 2025, and was divided into three phases. With each phase, the crocheted textile sculpture depicting a large caterpillar was expanded.
Each expansion added parts to the caterpillar's body, thus growing over the entire duration of the exhibition. The yarns used for the sculpture were leftover yarns and made of various materials. Limited availability also resulted in color variations, as a new color was used when the previous one was used up.

Variegation
2024-2025, in cooperation with Atelier Transluzent; diverse crocheted yarns (new wool, polyamide, polyester) & buttons; various dimensions; Exhibition view, in the “Leuchtkasten” at Stuttgart Main Station, Germany

In the first stage, only the head is visible. It occupies only a small part of the entire exhibition space. However, it is interesting to look at the head with its many elements in isolation.

This image shows the second phase, in which the torso was added to the head. The torso consists of three segments, each with a pair of legs. At this point, the installation extends over the display case's edge for the first time.

The third and final part is the caterpillar's abdomen. It is the longest element and consists of eleven additional segments. Four in the middle, as well as the last segment, have additional leg pairs. The abdomen extends the installation once again over the second edge of the display case, completing the installation.
